Hello there, this is your host Josh, welcome to the Revitalized Reading Podcast. I am very happy to usher in the Second season of the show with this episode. For today, I’m going to cover the changes I will be making to the show that will premier this season, as well as reveal the books I’ll be reading and reviewing for season 2, along with some other exciting announcements.  I will be covering a lot of information today, and if you are anything like me, you might not remember most of it. In order to help you get the general gist of my episodes, join the podcasts social media pages linked below. Not only will you get general overviews of the episodes I’ll be releasing, but you’ll also get notified when a new episode will be released, and you will get to participate in polls where you can choose which books I will be reading and reviewing in the future. So don’t hesitate to join the podcasts social media pages, we have an awesome community that I would love to see grow even more. The first item of business I want to share with you has to do with where you can listen to the podcast, a decent amount of you listen through the podcasts website, but if you are looking to listen on the go or at work without having to get to my website, here are the podcast directories where you can find and listen to the show. Spotify, Google Podcasts, Podcast Index, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn+Alexa, Podcast addict, Podchaser, Pocket Casts, Deezer, Listen Notes, and Player FM, Phew. One of the new changes that will be starting from now on, even with today’s episode, will be improved Audio quality, and episode transcripts. The Audio still won’t be perfect, but I’m hoping it will be a noticeable improvement from last Season, let me know what you think about it on the podcasts social media. If you enjoy being able to read along or go back to a part you might have missed, transcripts will be a part of all of my reviews going forward. I can’t guarantee I will always be able to make transcript for episodes where I’m interviewing or having a discussion with a guest, but I will try to make it work when I can. For Season 1, I used some Amazon book reviews as part of my review for all of the books I read, and to be honest, I don’t know why I did that. So starting with season 2, and moving forward, I will be using the top review for each rating on Goodreads.com, this will help me to give you a much better idea on how the book is received by other readers, as well as giving a much more accurate rating that isn’t tied to the books physical quality when shipped. So I apologize for having used Amazon reviews for books out the gate, that was dumb, no other way around it. I will still use amazon reviews for Movie reviews, but that’s it. I looked over the feedback many of you gave me at the end of Season 1, and I am going to modify the episode lengths permanently based off of your requests. Book review episodes will now be anywhere from 30, to 45 minutes in length, rarely will they exceed that timeframe or go below it. Movie reviews will be anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the film and whether or not I have a guest, but I’ll get to that later. Speaking of interviews, those episodes will typically last 30-45 minutes. For those of you who follow the show on Social media, you probably saw my post from yesterday giving a shoutout to a local bookstore. This is something that I want to do going forward. The Covid-19 pandemic did a number on small businesses of all kind, especially bookstores. I want to feature local bookshops on the podcast, and podcasts social media to encourage you or any loved ones who live nearby to give them a visit and show your support. From this point forward, I will buy all books I will be reading from local bookstores. If I can’t find the particular book I’m looking for, I’ll use my local Barnes and Noble as a backup. I am not being sponsored or supported in any way by the bookstores I’ll be visiting, I’m just trying to give back and support local business owners where I can, and I hope you do too. In a little less than 6 months from now, the podcast will be a year old, and I want to celebrate that with you the listeners and supporters of this show. While I can’t give any details at the moment, if you are interested in meeting up and seeing me in person while enjoying some good food and conversations, make sure to keep up with the social media of the show, and more details on that meet up will come. I have one last thing to share before I reveal the reading list for season 2, and it’s a brand new episode type. One of the genres I cover is Self-Improvement and Motivation, and that is a very popular genre in the world right now. All of us are trying to improve ourselves, or maybe just find motivation to keep going in a difficult world, so I wanted to make a whole new episode type where me and a guest will discuss the book I read and reviewed, and apply the books teaching or advice in our lives for 30 days. We’ll share our discoveries and thoughts, and be honest with you as to whether or not we thought the advice was actually helpful. Further details on who I’ll be doing that first episode with will come in the next few months. Alright enough of that, let’s get to what you came here for, the book list! I’ll go down the list according to the order I will be reading them in, so here we go. Here are the books that you the listeners chose. For the Classics and Fiction Genre, I will be Reading ‘A Farewell to Arms’ By Ernest Hemingway. For Government and politics, we have ‘Two Treatises of Government’ by John Locke. The Book I’ll be reading for Self-Improvement and Motivation is Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown. For Non-fiction, we have ‘France, Spain, and the Rif’ by Walter Burton Harris. The Book I’ll be reading for Dystopian/Sci-fi is ‘It Can’t Happen Here’ by Sinclair Lewis. For Theology and Apologetics, I’ll be reading The Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament of the King James Version of the Bible. For the Science and Technology Genre, I will be reading ‘Mining the Moon’ by David Dietzler. Our final book, under Philosophy/Psychology is ‘Noise: A flaw in Human Judgement’ by Daniel Kahneman, Oliver Sibony, and Cass R. Sunstein.  Here is some more exciting news. As of this moment, I have two confirmed interviews, and a third that is being deliberated right now. While I won’t share the names of those who I’ll be interviewing just yet, I will a few weeks before the interviews are set to take place. One book, ‘A Farewell to Arms’ by Ernest Hemingway, will also come with a movie review. I will review the 1957 film of the same name, but there will be a bit of a twist. I’m going to have a guest discuss the movie with me, and he may very well be a recurring guest for all movie reviews moving forward. Once again, I’m not giving details in case plans change for either party. But you will know soon enough who that guest will be. Well everyone, Season 2 has officially begun, and I hope you are just as excited as I am to get started. I’ve got some great things in store for the next 6 months, and I’m just happy to have you along for the ride. Thank you for your support and help, you are the reason a season 2 was even possible. Stay safe, stay warm as winter starts to wind down, and as always, keep reading.
